Amul AI — Sarlaben
Agriculture & AgriTech
AI-powered dairy assistant for 3.6M+ milk producers across 18,500 villages in Gujarat. Voice-first advisory in Gujarati on feature phones. From PM's vision to live app in 3 weeks.
Amul AI 'Sarlaben' is an AI-powered dairy assistant built by Kenpath in partnership with IIIT Bangalore and the EkStep Foundation for Amul (GCMMF) — India's largest dairy cooperative. Serving 3.6 million milk producers across 18,500 villages in Gujarat, Sarlaben delivers proactive livestock advisory, vaccination alerts, seasonal disease warnings and treatment guidance in Gujarati via voice on basic feature phones. Built on decades of Amul's cooperative data, the platform went from PM Modi's vision to a live app in just 3 weeks.
Key capabilities
Proactive livestock advisory
Timely alerts on vaccinations, seasonal disease risks and treatment. Farmers act before problems arise — healthier cattle means higher milk yield.
Voice and local language
Works on smartphones and basic feature phones. Farmers get answers in Gujarati — their mother tongue. No English or app literacy required.
Personalised, data-driven guidance
AI draws on each farmer's cattle records and milk history to give herd-specific advice, not generic information. Guidance sharpens as data grows.
Built on cooperative data
Activates decades of Amul's existing cattle records and milk procurement data — no new data collection or infrastructure needed to get started.
Sarlaben — dairy AI that speaks Gujarati on any phone
Amul AI 'Sarlaben' runs on an agentic AI architecture with specialised dairy domain models fine-tuned on decades of Amul's cooperative data. The platform integrates directly with Amul's existing cattle records and milk procurement systems, composing personalised responses per farmer. Voice AI serves queries in Gujarati on both smartphones and basic feature phones via IVR — removing smartphone and English literacy barriers. Built in collaboration with IIIT Bangalore and EkStep Foundation, the system was deployed to 36 lakh milk producers in just 3 weeks.

Kenpath's role
Kenpath partnered with IIIT Bangalore and collaborated with Amul (GCMMF) and the EkStep Foundation to build Sarlaben — Amul's AI dairy assistant. Kenpath designed the agentic AI architecture, fine-tuned dairy domain models on Amul's cooperative data, built the Gujarati voice AI pipeline, and integrated with Amul's existing cattle and procurement systems. The team moved from PM Modi's vision to a production-grade live app in just 3 weeks — praised by Nandan Nilekani at India's AI Impact Summit 2026 as a model for AI at national scale.
