Maharashtra Agri Governance AI
Agriculture & AgriTech
Bringing AI into the Department of Agriculture's everyday work — trusted answers for officers, claims that move faster, project reports ready for scrutiny, and applicants who always know where they stand.
Maharashtra's Department of Agriculture runs one of the larger digital estates in Indian agriculture. Kenpath is working with the Department, in collaboration with Precision Development (PxD) and with support from the Gates Foundation, to bring AI into that estate: officers with trusted knowledge and more time in the field, claims that move faster with the same assurance, and applicants who always know where they stand.
How we are enabling the Department's transformation
Knowledge at every officer's fingertips
Scheme rules and Government Resolutions become available in seconds, in Marathi, with the source behind every answer.
More time with farmers
Officers speak their field notes instead of typing them, and what they record turns into a clear picture of activity in their area.
Right first time
Claims are checked as they are submitted, so applicants get them right the first time and move forward without detours.
Expert judgment where it matters
Project reports reach scrutiny officers already read and summarised, so their expertise goes into decisions rather than reading.
Field evidence that stands up
Verification visits leave a stronger, more dependable record, giving everyone more confidence in the outcome.
Applicants always in the loop
Farmers and producer groups hear from the Department when their claim needs them, and every question is heard and answered by someone accountable.
Building on what the Department has already built
The Department's digital foundation is what makes this work possible. Processes are specified, digitised and in daily use, so the data behind them is structured and ready to work harder. The approach is to add intelligence at the points that matter most to the people in the system: an officer in the field who needs an answer, a claim on its way through, a project report awaiting scrutiny, an applicant waiting to hear. Each capability is proven in a pilot before it is scaled, officers remain the decision-makers, and answers rest on the Department's own current documents. The work begins inside PoCRA and is designed to extend to the Department's statewide operations.
Kenpath's role
Kenpath is the technology partner that builds, operates and transfers these systems. The team spent time with the PoCRA and Commissionerate teams in Mumbai and Pune, working through the processes and applications with the people who built them, and that work shaped where AI can add the most. Everything runs on Department infrastructure, is operable by the Department's own teams, and is released as a digital public good, with training and documentation so that ownership passes fully to the Department.
